FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

I am just starting this blog so I figured I'd complete this page and add to it later if things come up.

Where are you from?
I was born in Springfield, Missouri, but I grew up around Wichita, Kansas in the U.S.

When did you start this blog and why?
I am just now starting this blog. Today is April 23rd 2016.
My family and friends have asked for ways to keep up with me while I am exploring Ecuador, and I know of many others who have blogged while traveling so I thought I'd give it a go.
I have also began keeping up with other travel bloggers and realized that I want to join in on the fun! I think there are things I am already learning about solo travel, and getting the word out there for others can only be a good thing.

Where have you traveled to?
Simple answer:
Most of the south and midwest states of the U.S., Mexico, Peru, and Ecuador is my next destination!

Longer answer:
My first trip outside the U.S  was to Oaxaca, Mexico to visit my grandparents who were missionaries there.
When I was 12 I went to Juarez, Mexico with my youth group through Casas por Cristo.
At the age of 18 I spent 6 weeks in Peru. Some of the cities on that journey were Lima, Huarez, and Iquitos.
Later at 19, I traveled to a small town in Mexico to work in an orphanage over Spring Break.
Next at 20, I returned to Iquitos Peru. God decided Peru wasn't done with me yet.

Where are you now?
For the next 37 days I am in Kansas. After that follow me go through many towns in Ecuador.

What will you do in Ecuador?
Excellent question. First and foremost I will live! I will seek to enjoy each day and thank God for the blessing it is to have this privilege to travel.

Oh you meant what will I do for a job? I'm still working that one out myself. I am preparing applications to teach down there, but I am also interested in mission and church work, disaster relief, and public service jobs in general.

Why is this blog called One Way Journey?
Because I bought a one way ticket to Ecuador. Also because our individual life journeys are really only one way. Once we make decisions we can't go back. Even if we take a wrong turn somewhere and travel back to the path we originally wanted, the experience of making that error stays with us.
Plus One Way Adventure was already taken

How do you pay for your travels?
Saving while working. I am a teacher which means saving for big trips takes a while, but I try to live a very frugal, resourceful lifestyle.

Do you travel solo?
Yesm I do. I am excited to post about my travel experience as a single 20something woman who is not willing to wait to live her life. I don't need a man or even a group of friends to come with me to do what I want to do. Part of this journey that I share on this blog is about going through this experience on my own and all of the side effects of it.
